This fun, ensemble-based class is designed for a variety of experience levels and will build the confidence and skill of young performers. We will focus on technique and "vocal coaching" which integrates singing and acting skills in the interpretation of the musical theater song.  It explores the Broadway style of music using improvisation, acting, movement, and music. Vocal technique for musical theater singing includes technical exercises and application through the study of  specific songs.  Study will also include using show research and script/song analysis to develop characterization.  Basic music theory will be reviewed as well.  At the end of the term, students will apply their musical theater skills by performing song selections they have worked on in class.

Weslie holds a BFA in musical theater from  the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music and has trained and performed all across the country including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, DC.  She  played the role of Julie Jordan in the Broadway National Tour of CAROUSEL.  Since returning to the Playhouse, she has directed productions of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER, SANDERS FAMILY CHRISTMAS, THE FOREIGNER,ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, and SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAIN, and continues to teach and serve as CCP's Education Director. Weslie is a current member of the resident acting company and you may remember her as Grizabella in CATS, M'Lynn in STEEL MAGNOLIAS, Dolly Levi in HELLO, DOLLY!, and Violet in 9 TO 5.
